$50 Buys A Solar Light To Help Our Farmers Grow Healthy Chickens

KORE's mission to provide sustainable solutions to impoverished people in Haiti begins with a chicken coop business. We help families and individuals get started by providing a small business loan as well as all of the resources necessary to start their business. On average, their annual income will increase 4-6 times in the first year.

To date, KORE has 185 farmers whose chicken coops house approximately 400 birds on a 42 day cycle. At the end of each cycle, these birds should weigh between 4-6 lbs. This means each chicken has 42 days from birth to gain their necessary weight to be sold at market. This also means these chickens need to eat almost around the clock. Chickens will eat when they think it is daylight out, so our farmers' coops currently have kerosene lamps burning throughout the night to simulate daytime. However, kerosene can be a costly and unreliable. When our farmers are unable to get kerosene for any reason, their chickens do not eat regularly, they do not grow on schedule and profits for the farmers are reduced.

WE HAVE A SOLUTION! KORE has found $50 solar lights sold in Haiti that can be easily installed in our farmers' chicken coops. This is a cost-effective, eco-friendly and locally sourced solution that will provide the lighting needed for chickens to feed on their demanding schedule. Not only will the chickens have the adequate lighting they need for proper development, our farmers will benefit from having healthy, fat chickens to sell at the end of each cycle.

There are approximately 150 KORE farmers that need this lighting immediately. The cost to implement solar lighting in 150 coops will be $7,500. Please give today to help our farmers ensure healthy chickens. Thank you for supporting KORE!
